19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
