England along with Welsh Placed in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The group draw was conducted by sporting legends such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side and their Welsh counterparts have been drawn in an identical pool for the World Cup in 2027, promising a highly-anticipated early encounter in Australia. They are joined in Group F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at Twickenham played a part in the hosts' surprise group stage elimination.

Key Group Draws

The Irish and the Scots also share a group once again, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, they claimed a 36-14 win, with their opponents unable to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, who each impressed as underdogs in France, complete that same group.

Notably, the victors of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and world number one South Africa before the showpiece match, assuming the Springboks top their own group.

Knockout Ramifications

If the groups play out in line with the current global standings, other leading contenders like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from both England and Ireland until the final.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on the same side of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Hosts Face Blockbuster Fixture

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their great rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will open the World Cup in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match designed to jump-start the event.

In other groups, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and the Oaks. The French team are in a pool with Japan, 2031 hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Larger Format for 2027

Argentina will take on Fiji, Los Leones and the Canadian team as the tournament expands to twenty-four nations from the twenty who took part in France.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup history.

Although the winner of England and Wales's group may be kept apart from some of the game's heavyweights initially, they will have to face the second-placed team from Group B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

A total of four of the other six group winners will face a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
